Both Uganda and Rwanda can be visited year-round, but the best times are during the dry seasons: December to February and June to September. These months offer more comfortable conditions for gorilla trekking and wildlife viewing. The rainy seasons (March to May and October to November) make paths more challenging but often result in discounted rates and fewer tourists.
Gorilla trekking can be moderately to highly challenging depending on which gorilla family you're assigned and where they're located on the day of your trek. Treks can last from 30 minutes to 6+ hours through dense forest and steep terrain. A reasonable level of fitness is recommended. We can request easier gorilla families for those with physical limitations, though this cannot be guaranteed.
We recommend booking gorilla permits at least 6-12 months in advance, especially if you plan to travel during high season (June-September, December-February). Permits are limited and in high demand. For last-minute bookings, we can sometimes accommodate requests, but flexibility with dates is essential.
Yellow fever vaccination is mandatory for entry into both Uganda and Rwanda, and you'll need to show proof of vaccination. Other recommended vaccinations include hepatitis A and B, typhoid, tetanus, diphtheria, and polio. Malaria prophylaxis is also strongly advised. Please consult your doctor or travel health clinic for personalized advice based on your medical history and specific itinerary.
Absolutely! While we offer pre-designed itineraries, most of our tours can be fully customized to your preferences, timeframe, and budget. Whether you want to add specific activities, upgrade accommodations, or combine destinations, our team specializes in creating personalized experiences.
